Will this be the year for mass 3PointD?
Posted on February 16, 2007
Yes, the title of this post is a plug for the amazing blog 3pointD.com and Mark Wallace who is always at the forefront of the metaverse and the 3D web space. I am lucky enough to be doing a talk with him at Podcampnyc (totally psyched) so stay tuned for that.
Private label Virtual worlds…what are they…why are they? This is a question that I have been asking myself in preparation for a new article that I am writing for iMediaconnection.
Here is yet another example (I know I am a few days behind but I have been stuck in an airport with no Wi-Fi);

hey Adam -
I am similarly psyched to be doing that thing at PodcampNYC, believe me.
Also, are you coming to the metaverse meetup on February 23? Anyone reading this is invited as well.
Yeah, private label virtual worlds. Crazy! But it looks like that’s where things are heading, at least in part. Game-making is no longer the exclusive province of the game company, it seems. As more “traditional” media like television and films start to collide and converge with games and virtual worlds, look for more of this kind of thing. We’re already seeing it in MTV’s virtual worlds, and some of the other projects that are out there, like the Firefly MMO, etc. No one blinks when a movie studio remakes a classic film; soon no one will blink when the entertainment company that owns that studio makes that classic film into a virtual world or massively multiplayer online game. And I really can’t wait for the shows, films and worlds that develop in parallel, and the ones that interact with each other, so that what happens in the world affects what happens in the show, and vice versa. Exciting stuff.
See you soon!
